Lembranças by Impacto Cinco

Download

If this album cover doesn’t do it for you, just press play….

There you go.

They get a little more psych-rock on the rest of the album but this one has the jazzy progression and the swanky sax.  The singing is copping Joao Gilberto.

Lágrimas Azuis means “Blue Tears”.   Como adequado.

Best of 2010: The MUST DIE Top 5 EPs

Oh how we love these no-filler nuggets.

The EP format has been around longer than the LP format, and it seems to be making a comeback as of late.  This year there were tote-loads of quality EPs (partial thanks to Bandcampy for that) and we had a tough time limiting this list to 5.

Somethin’ 2 Say by DUDES

I wanna have a show on K-Earth 101 FM so I can play songs like this and make parents confused.

More DUDE tunage on their bandycamp.

Top Bunk by Gauntlet Hair

Few things:

  • loving the string bend in the intro guitar riff
  • parts of this song remind me of Newsies for some reason
  • this is one of the only tracks on the album that has a prominent bassline
  • this album makes me want to have twins and lock ‘em in a basement with instruments and a year supply of Gerber Graduates and hope they emerge with similar icy cavern grooves

I can’t believe it’s been a year and a half since we first got a taste of these guys.  Glad they made the full-length happen.  TWSS.

    Before the Art by CAANDIDES

These kids are from Paris but they sing in English.  You should download their excellent debut EP for free on their bandcamp.

The instrument production is beautifully rowdy and the vocal phrasing can be David Byrne-ish at times (like on “Sun Way Too Low”).
