COOLRUNNINGS /// Dracula Is Only The Beginning

If you don’t have this yet, get it now.

I especially dig the opening one-two punch of “Chorus” and “Brunettes”.  Tropical post-rad jams with snare snaps, rolling toms, and Anco-meets-XTC vocal chants.  The whole LP is solid, which is a testament to the true talent that these Knoxville kids bring to the table.

Day by Day Livin’ by Foreign Orange

I was pleasantly surprised by this snazzy debut album by Portland’s Foreign Orange.  I guess he got his start in Knoxville TN (home to the wonderful COOLRUNNINGS) before he teamed up Portland ressy Jeremy Sherrer.

The outcome has dashes of vintage psych-pop in the style of Conspiracy of Owls or The Explorers Club (complete with some rich harmonies), but often falls closer to disco soul.  It sounds cool without coming across too serious.  I would highly recommend this free download of Ghost Vibrations.  I had to play it thru twice.

Here’s an old picture from 2009.  Probs pre-J-Sher
