Gauntlet Hair: Heave.

“Imagine the gorgeous gents of Duran Duran dressing up as Liars and showing up to the beardo mountain Brooklyn commune to pants the guys in Yeasayer…”

It’s been far too long since we’ve posted something from Mexican Summer. Shame on us. To repent our sin, here’s the b-side to Gauntlet Hair’s freshly pressed (and hotly anticipated) 7”. I’ve been itching for more Gauntlet Hair ever since “I Was Thinking…” first tore up my speakers, and “Out, Don’t..”/”Heave.” deliver my fix quite nicely. While the jet-propelled (and oddly punctuated) “Out, Don’t..” breaks out the same dancey guitar stabs and soaring, rhythmic harmonies as “I Was Thinking…”, “Heave.” shows these guys in full-on attack mode. Pitting pounding, militant drums against a moaning buzz-saw, it grabs you by the neck and refuses to let go (if only it were two minutes longer).

Gauntlet Hair- Heave.

It’s amazing how lo-fi these guys are considering they sound sooo damn good.  However, “Out, Don’t..” is the track to put yr chips into on this 7”.  It basically follows the same formula (e.g., delayed guitar chirps and yelping reverby vocals) as “I Was Thinking…”.

Glowing Eyes by FLASHLIGHTS

Colorado’s FLASHLIGHTS have returned with a new EP of casually-crafted electro pop, aptly titled FLASHLIGHTS EP 2.  The songs have a fun, bubbly quality to them (especially on “Holiday” which sounds like a mix of Ben Gibbard and Chairlift).

The track “Glowing Eyes” stood out as different with its Knight Rider-ish synth lines, ambient pools and dark vocals.

You can stream their entire thing ( + download 2 tracks for free! ) on their bandcamp página.  The song “New Hampshire” also appears on a split cassette with Force Publique.

Take It Out on Me by Chairlift

I don’t know if our lives will be the same after hearing this chorus.  Caroline Polachek….<3 u 4 ever.

Fuck yeah forgiveness

Forget all the rules

Just please don’t do it here

Bring on the fire

Cuz business is cool

But somehow I can’t help to think of Keane’s “Everybody’s Changing” at the same time.  Check out the similar chorus vibe.

You can stream the whole new album, Something, in its entirety on Chairlift’s soundcloud.  You also can hear them perform their new songs on NPR here.
